Beer Club is meeting on Saturday, October 28th from 5pm to 6:30pm.
What is Beer Club? I'm glad you asked :)
Beer Club is an opportunity to experience a wide variety of beers within a certain theme set by the meetup's host. Our hosts, Ingrid McDuff and Philip Houlding, have selected the theme "Beers to Gamble By" in honor of a famous US movie with a link to 28 October. Come prepared to make a guess and win a bottle of New Zealand craft beer!
Here's how Beer Club works: You bring one case (24 x 12 oz beers) of a single beer. For this theme, "Beers to Gamble By," the range is broad and somewhat up to your imagination. Maybe you will choose a lower ABV session beer to keep clear headed when the stakes are high. Or you might pick a beer whose name has a tie-in to the theme like Brooklyn's Sorachi Ace, or Brewdog's Casino Rye Ale. Perhaps a heavier beer provides more solace when the chips are down? Whatever your selection, everyone brings their choice and shows up at the Club at the appointed time. Your case does not have to be cold (your host will bring some cold beers and snacks for the event). At the event, someone with higher math skills (Megan Kenney), will direct participants to divide as equally as possible all of the beers such that everyone brings home a case of beer with lots of variety. Along the way we sip, nibble and tell stories about hops, barley, prohibition and movies.
Children are welcome, but are the responsibility of their parents. Members may also bring guests.
If there is interest, Beer Club will then flow directly into a fall porch party (in which case we will have sitters, pizza and a kids movie upstairs starting after Beer Club). If you think we should have a porch party Oct 28th after Beer Club, please make your opinion known on the Club's Facebook page or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don't forget to register for Boo @ the Club for a pre- Trick or Treat ghoulishly fun gathering on Halloween, Tuesday Oct 31st!
