The Camp @ Cleveland Park Club seeks a Camp Director for our 8 week summer program in 2018. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a one of a kind camp. The Camp @ Cleveland Park Club combines old fashioned fun with an updated twist. Campers expand their interests and make lasting friendships in an atmosphere reminiscent of the days when neighborhood children of all ages spontaneously came together to play. The Camp @ Cleveland Park Club offers a low-key, warm and welcoming setting in which campers explore a variety of activities- mostly outside!  The Camp Director will design the sessions to ensure a fun and safe experience for all. The Camp Director manages a staff that includes an Assistant Camp Director and Senior Counselors.  This is a seasonal, hourly wage, full-time contract position.

Position Summary

The Camp Director works with the Cleveland Park Club’s Manager and Board to develop a summer day camp program consistent with the needs and interests of the Club and its members.


  • Plan, direct and supervise all camp programs including outdoor and indoor activities and lessons. This will include swim, sports, and games

  • Ensure that the camp experience is safe for all who participate

  • Identify talented instructional leaders to provide exciting weekly themes for camp

  • Supervise and evaluate camp operations and staff

  • Recruit, interview and hire in consultation with the Club Manager

  • Manage and supervise camp staff including the Assistant Camp Director and Senior Counselors

  • Foster a positive atmosphere among staff and campers

  • Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff trainings

  • Maintain open communication with the Club Manager and Board

  • Liaise with parents and caregivers as appropriate

  • Develop routines, schedules and procedures for camp operation including emergency procedures

  • Assist with ordering of food, supplies and equipment, and arrange for proper storage and distribution

  • Prepare an evaluation of the 2018 Summer Camp program including inventories, staff evaluations, camper reports and recommendations for the following year

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Ability to supervise, motivate and interact professionally with staff and campers

  • High energy and enjoy working with children

  • Excellent organizational, managerial and communication skills

  • Current CPR/First Aid /AED certifications

  • At least one season of camp administrative experience

  • Experience in an educational setting preferred

  • Previous management experience including hiring staff preferred

  • Must pass a background check

Work Cycle

  • Camp is currently scheduled for 8  weeks starting on Monday, June 18 until  Friday, August 10, 2018. The camp is closed on July 4, 2018.

  • Three additional weeks of preparation to be self - scheduled. However, one week must be used in January 2018 to finalize the camp schedule prior to the start of registration in February 2018.


Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is full - time.  This is a seasonal, hourly wage, contract position. No benefits are provided.
